The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die [US] + Special Guests: Michael Cera Palin [US]

  • Spillestedet Stengade 18 Stengade København, 2200 Denmark (map)

Verden er et smukt sted og vi er ikke længere bange for at dø, ja det bliver en følsom alternativ rejse med rock, indie, emo og punk når The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die + Michael Cera Palin spiller på Stengade d. 16 maj.

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die:
Sometimes, the best place to begin is at the end. If you really want to dig deep into Illusory Walls, the fourth album by The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am NoLonger Afraid To Die, it definitely helps to do that. That’s because epic closer “Fewer Afraid”—all 19 minutes, 44 seconds of it—doesn’t just revisit the themes and ideas on the ten songs that precede it, but also offers a self-aware summary of the Connecticut band’s entire history. It’s the conclusion of all the stories within the record as well as a nod to all the lives that helped make them—little glimpses of everything that’s come before, on both a micro, immediate level, and a more universal one.

“That song is a higher level look at my whole life and the whole world,”explains vocalist/guitarist David F. Bello, “as well as the album, our band, and our discography. It places the band in the context of the rest of the world as if we’re listening to everything that came before. It touches on all the themes of the previous songs, but there are also callbacks to songs from earlier in our career. But in this song, they’re the object, not the subject—I’m talking about a world in which these things happen, not talking about these things happening.”

Michael Cera Palin:
Michael Cera Palin are an emotive indie-punk trio from Atlanta, GA. The band are noted for consciously vulnerable lyrics, a cathartically catchy sound, and an impassioned live show, all forged through a decade of cutting teeth in the genre-fluid arts landscape of their home. MCP released two EPs from 2015-2018 before a premature hiatus. After derailed ambitions for their 2020 return (now to a notably larger listenership than they had previously left behind), the band retreated from the social dimension of the community to begin carving their new chapter, and finding a voice of their own. They then released 2 singles, before starting toward an accelerating tour ethic since 2022, diligently assuring fans along the way that a debut full-length album would be with them in due time. Whether owed to or despite their limited output, Michael Cera Palin’s work continues to accrue fervent support, with mounting anticipation of their new material.

Michael Cera Palin’s debut LP, “We Could Be Brave”, displays the band stretching their limbs to prove their growth as both musicians and discerning creatives. “Feast or Famine”, “Gracious”, “Despite”, & “Wisteria” serve as benchmarks for MCP’s prowess of their Midwest Emo roots, each song rich with its own display of the band’s dynamic range. The band explore this range at both extremes, such as in the grief-stricken “10:38/Doe”, and most conclusively in the album’s eponymous 12-minute finale. However, the band remains no stranger to brief ecstatic punk bursts with tracks “Tardy” and “A Broken Face”. Never for lack of focus, Michael Cera Palin are also heard incorporating a wealth of newfound influence reaching far beyond their staple sound, while leaving no less of themselves on the table. “Murder Hornet Fursona” is a queer anti-assimilation call invoking primal dance-punk and no-wave sensibilities. “Crypto” applies guttural sludge to a slacker-rock cadence in a tour de force of innuendo toward the rise of neo-fascism in America. Michael Cera Pailn are taking that happy-sad punk which has maintained their relevance and expanding their showcase of its aesthetic pallette.

MCP have now parted ways with Jon Buncic, their founding drummer with whom “We Could Be Brave” was written and recorded. Michael Cera Palin are excited to keep venturing forth, now consisting of singer-guitarist Elliott Brabant, bassist Jon Williams, and new drummer Chad Miller.
